Booking student housing in Stockholm requires careful timing and preparation. This guide explains when you are eligible to book and how the SSSB selection process works.
Booking Eligibility by Semester
Your ability to book housing is tied to when you start your studies:
- Autumn Semester: You can book housing with an agreement start date of August 1 or later.
- Spring Semester: You can book housing with an agreement start date of January 1 or later.
Required Documentation
To sign a tenancy agreement, you must provide proof of your studies:
- August–December starts: A certificate of registration for at least 15 credits in the Autumn semester. If you haven’t started yet, your Notification of Selection Results is acceptable.
- January–July starts: A certificate of registration for at least 15 credits in the Spring semester (or Notification of Selection Results if the semester hasn’t started).
- PhD Students: A certificate confirming at least 50% study activity using the SSSB doctoral certificate template.
- Validity: All uploaded documents must be less than one month old.

The Booking Process
- Max Bookings: You can book up to three homes at the same time.
- Selection: The person with the most queue days gets the offer. If days are equal, the person who registered with SSSB first wins.
- No Ranking: You cannot prioritize your bookings. If you are #1 for multiple units, the system will randomly pick one to offer you. Only book units you genuinely want.
- declined Offers: If the winner declines, the home is re-published rather than going to the second person in line.
Publication Schedule
Vacant homes are typically published on a regular schedule:
- Mondays at 16:00: Bookable until Thursday 10:00.
- Thursdays at 10:00: Bookable until Monday 16:00.
- Summer: Publications may also occur on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Priority Housing
Priority in the queue is only granted for exceptional medical or social reasons (e.g., severe disability), supported by medical certificates. Reasons such as homelessness, pregnancy, or long commutes are not accepted for priority. If you decline an offer while on priority, you lose that status and must re-enter the queue as a regular applicant.
