If you are an international Master’s student at Chalmers University of Technology, your housing process is managed through a specific collaboration between Chalmers and CSB (Chalmers Studentbostäder).

The Housing Process

If you are guaranteed housing through Chalmers, the process follows these stages:

  1. Student List: Mid-June, Chalmers sends a list of eligible students to CSB.
  2. Reservation Email: You receive an email confirming that you are on the list and will receive a housing offer.
  3. Login Details: You will receive instructions on how to log in to “My Pages.”
  4. Single Offer: You will receive one apartment offer.
  5. Contract Signing: You must sign the contract within a few days to secure the unit.

Note: Offers are sent out in stages. If your peers receive offers before you, do not worry as long as you have received the initial reservation email.

My Pages & Login

  • Identity Number: Use the identity number provided by Chalmers (the one registered in your Chalmers account) to log in.
  • Password: Since new students don’t have a password yet, email info@chalmersstudentbostader.se to receive a temporary one.
  • Early Registration: You can register on “My Pages” ahead of time. Ensure you use the same email address you provided to Chalmers so the systems can match your account.

Apartment Details & Allocation

  • Offer Limit: You only receive one offer. If you decline it, you must find housing on your own.
  • Furnishing: Master apartments are typically furnished with a single bed (90 cm), desk, chair, dining table, and lighting. Bedding (pillows, duvets, linen) is not included.
  • Selection: Apartments are assigned randomly based on the list from Chalmers. You cannot choose a specific area or exchange apartments.
  • Occupancy: While the contract is for one person, 2–3 people are usually allowed to live in the unit depending on the size.

Contracts & Rental Period

  • Duration: Master contracts are fixed-term, normally for a maximum of 2 years.
  • No Extensions: These contracts cannot be extended. Once they end, you must find a regular apartment through the standard queue system.
  • Move-in Date: Usually between early August and early September. The start date is fixed and cannot be changed, even if you arrive later.

Queue Points & Future Housing

  • Stay in the Queue: After signing your Master contract, ensure your place in the housing queue is activated.
  • Points: You earn 1 point per day by default, or 2 points per day if you have a Swedish personal number and Student Union membership.
  • Standard Wait: It typically takes 1.5 to 2 years to receive a regular (non-master) apartment offer.

Rent & Payments

  • First Invoice: May be higher as it might cover a partial month plus the first full month.
  • 12-Month Rent: Rent is paid for all 12 months of the year.
  • Subleasing: You can apply to sublease your apartment during the summer months (June–August) with permission.
