The SSSB housing queue is governed by regulations set by the SSCO (Stockholm Federation of Student Unions). Understanding these rules is essential for maintaining your eligibility for student housing.

Core Queue Rules

  • Age Limits: You must turn at least 17 and a maximum of 50 during the current year. Agreements can only be signed by those 18 or older.
  • Personal Queue: The queue is strictly personal. It cannot be transferred, combined with others, or held through multiple accounts.
  • Condominium Ownership: You cannot sign a tenancy agreement if you own a condominium (bostadsrätt) in the Stockholm area.
  • Union Membership: Beyond the first 90 days, you must be an active student and a member of an affiliated Student Union.
  • Queue Termination: Your queue days are deleted once you sign a rental agreement.
  • Parking Limit: A queue can be parked for a total of 36 months before being deleted.

Why You Might Be Blocked from Booking

Certain conditions can temporarily or permanently block you from booking new housing:

  1. Active Contract: You are blocked from the date of signing until three months after your contract starts.
  2. Free Term: If you have an approved break in studies, you are blocked until your next tenancy review is approved.
  3. Debt: Any outstanding debt to SSSB must be paid before you can book.
  4. Late Payments: Having two or more payments late by more than 14 days within a six-month period results in a six-month block.
  5. Inaccurate Information: Providing false certificates or manipulating the queue will result in a block.
  6. Term Limits: Once you have reached a total tenancy period of 5.5 years, you can no longer book housing.
  7. Age 51: Once you turn 51, you are no longer eligible for the student housing queue.
